In 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it topped the charts for most streamed songs at the time within the space of six months. The single Despacito which was a mix of reggaeton and pop was not only a way to bring new attention to reggaeton music but also increased interest in Latin music. The Billboard Top 100 featured two songs in Spanish predominantly, as well as four in 2016. At the peak of Despacito's popularity in 2017 however 19 mostly Spanish songs made it into the Top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 such songs. After Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in 2017, popular artists began to collaborate with reggaeton musicians. Drake and Bad Bunny worked together on MIA (2018) and Madonna joined forces with Maluma to record Medellin in the year 2019. In the year 2020, a handful of reggaeton performers were lamenting its inclination towards mainstream, but a new generation, led by Rauw Alejandro was determined to continue the evolution of reggaeton.
